Most of it starts at the edge

Pests rarely use the front door. They come along a wall, under a gap, up out of the gravel.

In the high desert a lot of that happens once the sun is down. You find out later, on the kitchen floor or inside a shoe left by the door.

Sierra Vista sits high, between grassland and mountain. Plenty of houses here back onto open ground, and open ground is where a lot of this begins.

That is usually the moment people pick up the phone.

A pale amber termite close up on damp, dark soil and moss.

Some of it never shows itself

Not everything announces itself. Some insects work out of sight, in wood and in soil, long before anyone sees a sign.

Others turn up once, then again a week later, then in a different room. Either way, the details help.

Write down what you saw and roughly when. Sawdust, small holes, wings on a windowsill, a trail along the skirting. It all says something.

A glossy black beetle walking across weathered wood.
A spider web strung in the corner under a wooden eave, trees behind.

Call and say what you saw

(520) 508-2408

Say what it looked like, where you found it, and when. Eaves, porches and the back of the garage count too.

You do not need to know the name of the thing. A plain description is enough to start with.

If it is still in the room, keep children and pets away from it. A clear photo on your phone helps, if you can take one from a safe distance.
